Insulin resistance is a condition where the body’s cells don’t respond effectively to insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. This leads to higher blood sugar levels and can strain the pancreas, which produces more insulin to compensate. Over time, insulin resistance can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other health issues. It’s often associated with obesity, physical inactivity, and certain dietary patterns.
