Navigating the Health Risks and Side Effects of Testosterone Replacement Therapy: An Updated Perspective

  • by

Introduction

Testosterone is pivotal for maintaining efficient metabolic processes throughout the body. However, as men age, testosterone levels naturally decline, leading to reduced bioavailable testosterone and its associated benefits. According to the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, rates of hypogonadism (characterized by reduced testicular size) are reported as 20% in men over 60, 30% in men over 70, and 50% in men over 80.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) can significantly enhance the quality of life for men with low testosterone levels. Still, it’s crucial for anyone considering TRT to fully comprehend the potential risks involved.

TRT is contraindicated for men diagnosed with prostate and breast cancer. Those undergoing TRT should vigilantly monitor for potential side effects such as polycythemia, edema, and cardiac and hepatic dysfunction (Osterberg EC et al., 2014).

The Relationship Between Sexual Activity and Prostate Cancer Risk

  • by

Introduction

Engaging in sexual activity, especially beyond the age of 50, is a key aspect of overall well-being and quality of life, particularly for individuals with an active lifestyle. Despite the general decline in libido with age, approximately 40% of married men over 60 remain sexually active, engaging in sexual activities between 1 and 4 times per month. Given that the prostate gland plays a crucial role in reproduction and semen formation – contributing around 30% of its volume – it’s reasonable to assume that the health of this gland might be influenced by sexual activity. Moreover, since the risk of prostate cancer escalates with age, researchers have long been interested in the potential correlation between prostate cancer risk and ejaculation frequency or prostate activity.

How does obesity affect prostate health?

  • by

Introduction.

Overweight and obesity are risk factors for many health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, joint conditions, gallstones, and certain types of cancer, among other issues.
Hereafter, we’ll discuss how obesity affects the health of the prostate, namely benign prostate enlargement and prostate cancer (PC). The aim is to educate and attract the attention of men to the adverse consequences that may have obesity on the male reproductive system in general and prostate health in particular.

Currently, prostate cancer is on the rise, and so is obesity.
Only for the last five years, in the United States, registered PC cases have increased by 27% from 180,890 in 2016 to 248,530 in 2021.
The deaths from PC raised by 24%, from 26,120 deaths in 2016 to 34,130 deaths in 2021.

Five years ago, an official forecast for PC was that one man in 9 would be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Now, it is one man in 8 already.

Don’t allow yourself to be a part of these horrible statistics.

Testosterone boosters: Zinc

Zinc – a master element to optimize testosterone in men.

Zinc (Zn) is humans’ most abundant trace metal after iron. It cannot be deposited in the body, the extra Zn is excreted together with sweat and other discharges. Therefore, regular dietary intake of the mineral is required. The human body contains 2–4 grams of Zn; most of it (nearly 90%) is found in muscles and bones, with the highest concentrations in the prostate and semen. Zn is the key element in the male reproduction system determining prostate gland function and growth of reproductive organs. Zinc is a component of over 300 enzymes and 1000 transcription factors and is involved in almost all physiological functions of our body: growth, immune response, reproduction, DNA synthesis, expression of genes, and cell division. Here we will focus on how Zn stimulates testosterone production and thereby defines the reproductive health in men.
